A Dream Come True After Ten Years: The Book of Life Lessons by Louis Slangen

A Ten-Year Dream Come True: The Book of Life Lessons

Aloha friends,

At Aloha Publishing, we love success stories, and we love working with people who want to share what they’ve learned. Louis Slangen’s new release, and the first book he has ever published, combines both in an authentic sharing of wisdom learned on a wonderful journey that began on a hog farm in The Netherlands. Landing in Manhattan in 1968 at the age of 20, after a 10-day North Atlantic crossing on the S.S. Waterman with just $200 and two suitcases, Louis Slangen worked his way up as he chased “unforeseen dreams” on his life’s journey.

No journey is a failure. Even when the desired goal is not achieved, the lessons learned from not “winning” are often the most valuable lessons in life.

His book, The Book of Life Lessons, is not an autobiography. You’ll learn much of Louis’s story along the way, but his goal is to share what he’s learned from 40 years in business, which culminated with his role as partner in what would become the global healthcare company Invacare. His 50 lessons of life touch on both business and personal wisdom that can help you find your way to what’s important, no matter where you are in your life.

Two years after landing in Manhattan, Louis was back in the city working for Phillips, when he met his future wife and partner, Linda. A year later, they were married in New Jersey.

As Lou wrote, “I could never have made this special life journey without Linda.” She has been the heart of their home for their children and their grandchildren, and a partner in all their endeavors.

Lesson 50, The Greatest Regrets Are Actions Not Taken, says this: “Taking that unknown fork in the road can turn out to be very different from what one had originally planned.” For Lou, the originally planned nine-month student exchange program at a West Coast American university turned into a life-changing journey. “And remember: Don’t trip over what’s behind you.”

The Book of Life Lessons is an inspiring example of the American dream. Whether you’re launching your first business, navigating your career, or simply trying to live with more purpose, this book will help you rise to meet your potential.

In the life of books, you are taught a lesson and tested.

In the book of life, you are tested and taught a lesson.

These athletes longed to share their...
